I have really missed class! ...All that yoga practice really helped my breathing and focus. ~molly s.
I started by taking a heart [balancing] workshop with Lakota. She spoke about emotion, described the connections to the body, and led us in poses that fostered compassion and feeling. In her group and private classes, she perfectly marries knowledge about physiology and anatomy with... the human experience. She spoke in a way that resonated for me because I look to yoga for emotional balance as well as for physical release. After speaking to Lakota.. and really connecting with her perspective and her way [of teaching] I asked to work with Lakota privately. ~emily levine

Unwinding the Heart: A Heart Balancing Class
(3hr embodied anatomy, movement and meditation)
(3hr embodied anatomy, movement and meditation)
We are told to follow, listen to, and expand our hearts, but the heartcan feel like an uncharted wilderness. Encouragement regarding theheart is often vague or contradictory. We often alternate between guarding and overextending – recoiling and clamping down again, as a means of protection.
Our hearts hold our deepest desires, bring depth and clarity, and affect every other system in our bodies. When balanced, our heart allows us to connect to our environment, others, and ourselves.
Leading you through an extended inquiry into the intelligent space of the heart, lakota blends gently flowing body shapes, breath and meditation to support the unwinding and gentle opening of the heart, bringing more balance. With patient inquiry we nurture more clarity, confidence, connection, and joy.
This workshop is open to all but particularly relevant to those experiencing any expression of anxiety or curious about moving into a deeper connection to self and other. It draws on the emobdied anatomy work of Embodyoga and Body-mind Centering, Shambhala Warrior Training, Trauma Study and Training, as well as over 1000 hours of Yoga Training and countless hours of Therapeutic Yoga. Handouts will be provided to review what we work on; you may want to bring pen and paper, as well.

NEW YEARS DAY WORKSHOP
How do we magnetize and enhance qualities in ourselves and in our lives? Where would it be helpful to loosen our grip to get there? New Years is traditionally a time of remaking ourselves; sadly, but predictably, most resolutions fall short. This New Year's day practice will guide you in working with intention and help you set the tone for the year ahead. We'll be using writing prompts, flowing Asana, Embodied Inquiry and Meditation to tap into what you already know deep down inside and want to see reflected more in your days. Come explore in an intimate playful setting to some great music!

Breath, Sound and Visualization for Birth

(3 hr class focusing on nada, pranayama and visualization techniques)
The birth was torturous, of course, but I did make it through naturally with... "sounding" as my greatest tool in the end. I think I even scared some of the nurses with the sounds I made. :) Thank you for all of your support leading up to this. Your class has been invaluable. ~sara u.
I just wanted to say thank you for your classes and it was great meeting you and participating, I am really glad that I did!! ...the sessions definitely helped me through pregnancy. My back ALWAYS bothered me pre-pregnancy and so I honestly thought that I would be doomed for a good portion of the 9 months. My back didn't end up bothering me at all and it was definitely because of the yoga...
I already have but will continue recommending prenatal yoga to others, the movements and stretching made my body feel so much better. I will definitely be doing it in my next pregnancy (and hopefully in between, if I can find time with the little one). Thank you again! ~kerri d.
Birth as Sacred Space
(3hrs includes yoga, discussion and supported Art making)
(3hrs includes yoga, discussion and supported Art making)
our almost 9lbs baby girl was born yesterday -and I wanted to share this story with you-I was stalling after 9 cm not fully effaced and they told me they would have to give me a C section - I was so disheartened and then I asked my husband to read all my affirmations to me and i repeated them all- and said to myself that I was going to try one for time for a [natural] delivery - it is the hardest thing I have ever done - but it worked- so thank you!! I trust in my baby and my body :) ~s.s.
Just wanted to say hello and let you know... I had a great pregnancy and the birth was actually great - I went really fast, from being admitted to actually having her... I progressed really fast, no pitocin and just wanted to tell you I was thinking " I trust my body, I trust my baby"... I think the positive thinking really worked! The nurses couldn't believe how fast I progressing for baby #1 and how great she was doing and so was I. ...it was awesome to take your classes... Thanks for your motivation and energy in class. Thanks again. ~natalie c.

Just wanted to [tell you] how integral prenatal yoga was to a fabulous, completely natural child birth!! thanks so much! ~lilli s.
[I] wanted to let you know that the yoga really helped me during the labor process. I had a long (48 hours) of horrible back labor that was "disorganized." I was pretty much on my hands and knees for two days until I was finally admitted to the birth center...I don't think I could have had the strength for those two days of labor let alone the pushing if I had not done your classes. ~alice g.

For too long, our approach to childbearing and caring for mothers and babies has been fear-based, its hallmarks isolation, intervention in natural processes, hyper-stimulation and maternal deprivation. Women's experiences and their feelings about themselves, their babies and motherhood, translate directly into thoughts and biochemistry that lay down patterns in their baby's developing nervous system and brain. These patterns shape, not only how we see ourselves as children, but the relationships we form as adults and how we care for others and our world. |
The mother-baby relationship is crucial. Thus, how we treat the women who bring children into this world - with honor and tenderness or neglect and abuse - profoundly influences the direction of our society. |
