winter draws us in, into our caves, our homes and hearth, into our tighter communities and ourselves. traditionally a time of storytelling, creativity, reflection. it is good that we've soaked up sunshine and been exuberant, maybe lived a little extroverted through the apex of the warmer seasons, searching landscapes and connections for vitality, resonance. it is good too that we now start to curl around our own breath, witness the death small and large around and inside us, digest, create, begin to give back to the processes. notice and feel the cold, take it in as well as literally step out into it.. but also sometimes it's time to hibernate, dream, watch and witness the internal processes. the voices and stories in the silence of the season. patiently we anticipate the shortest day of the year, winter solstice and finally the gradual return of the sun, the next step, the next round of breath..
here's what the reflection lent..
contrasts opposing forces
branches deadened and sharp,
dense liquid fertilities fed into the ground, again, again
a father loses wife and child, again, again,
each loss a world of suffering
possibilities and dawns breaking open all around
poetry everywhere, colors never tiring
i try to practice conservation of energy
try to focus on three, on time tables, sequences
but everywhere attractions adding up to deficit
dispersion and condensation falling into center
moods reflecting all around, pools of my mental realities reflecting
on screens, in speech, faces, politics...
'all this is that' and verily all that is also this.
i start both in and out, both rest in me, both move spastically through me
i don't settle, i keep inhaling more, drawing out,
writing down words and pasting up images
trying to gather a wider pool in which they all swirl together...
counting my breathes, i add my own rich bloods to the pool,
take in the white sunshine,
happy belated solstice. happy new year. may all have happiness and the root of happiness. may all be free from suffering and the root of suffering. may all experience profound and brilliant glory.
